Don’t Forget To Put The Cilantro In Your Sandwich

41333668_f4b5d7392f_mWhen you make a sandwich, you have the bread, and then you have the main ingredients of it.  As you are making it, you will likely maintain motivation to add each ingredient up to a certain point.  The difference between stopping at the stage where the sandwich is done as far as required components, and adding those final touch ingredients like cilantro, makes a world of difference to how you will perceive the meal.  The same is true of anything else you do.

The Finishing Touches Can Be Worth Half Of The Perceived Value

The last items you add to finalize your project are likely the first things about it that others notice.  You might submit your finished product, thinking that all the time and effort you spent on its foundation will be publicly appreciated by your audience, but a minor item you leave off will leave people with the impression that the whole product is not to be treated and/or purchased like a final release.

PowerPoint Example

Let’s say you are making a PowerPoint presentation, and have created thirty slides full of data, picture, and explanations.  Your slide-show is 90% done before you add final touches like background colors and specially-designed images to the introductory slides.  This is where motivation can come to a halt.  What you need to process at this point is that people will view your slide-show as 50% incomplete if you don’t spend these final 30 minutes to complete the finishing touches.

The Little Things Set You Apart

It is likely that the foundational components of your project are also present in your competitor’s creation.  From the viewpoint of a third party, there is little that separates you from your competition until it comes to the extra level of material you present, along with added finishing touches.  You want to make it so that there is something relevant about your creation for people to mention to others other than “It looks like X is missing”.

The cilantro and squeeze of lemon to finalize your sandwich, or choice image and inventive title to finalize your article, or relevant concluding joke to end your presentation on a positive note, are all items that you have to make the time to add in, or people will later be searching their minds to remember what you did.

Howdy! I understand this is sort of off-topic but I had to ask. Does managing a well-established blog such as yours require a massive amount work? I’m completely new to writing a blog however I do write in my diary on a daily basis. I’d like to start a blog so I can easily share my own experience and views online. Please let me know if you have any kind of recommendations or tips for brand new aspiring bloggers. Appreciate it!
