People Want Repetition

by Armen · 1 comment

Repetition is the way you get from where you are to where you want to be.  A doctor repetitively gets better and better at different procedures until he/she is up to par in performing them on people.  We look at people based on their experience, which is about repetition.  Repeat if you want to get something down.  Repeat what you are doing when studying for a test to get better and better.

It is through repetition that you get the material possessions you want or the accolades you feel you deserve or the companion you desire.

I could write 500 words of filler here but you have to think about what you can work on by repeating it over and over until you are winning.

I’m reminded of the saying: “Practice makes perfect.”

But as my piano teacher used to tell me, “Practice doesn’t make perfect — PROPER practice makes perfect.” Doing it wrong over and over just ingrains bad habits.

I’m also reminded of the saying: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.”

I’ve always taken issue with that, because quite often, an action DOES eventually produce different results. How many times should you try to open a difficult jar lid before giving up, or thinking you have to find a different approach? Hitting a brick wall with a hammer will eventually break through it, even though it may not seem like it for the first several swings.

So much for all those pithy bits of wisdom, eh? Live shouldn’t be lived according to bumper sticker slogans.
