When you have to make the choice of whether to say what is on your mind or filter it out for your audience or the person you are talking to, lean towards the side of saying what is on your mind without thinking about it, as long as it is not very risky. When you hold onto your thoughts and are stuck wondering about whether you should release them, you will want to remember a certain set of points that will help you say them.
You Will Probably Still Want To Say It Later
Often, the item you hold back from saying will still be something you will want to say an hour or day later. During all that time that you don’t say it, it will be wasting your thought cycles for nothing. Wasting your valuable thinking ability should be enough to keep you from keeping words unsaid.
People Know What You Want To Say
People tend to already have an idea of what is on your mind, so if you don’t say it, they are likely to think you are weak. Just like showing up is 80% of success, speaking the words that everyone is expecting you to speak is 80% of the point of the event. People are often checking if you are up to par in boldness and communication, so if you don’t meet their expectations and say what you are thinking, they will tack that on as an example of where you showed fearfulness, meaning you cared too much about what they would think, or a possible negative outcome.
You Want To Move On To The Next Step
When you don’t voice your opinion, it is less likely that you can move on to the next step in your thoughts. Until you say step A to others, you will not be able to announce step B to others, because they will not have any idea about step A. Holding back on pointing out step A holds back any future announcements, and holds back your ability to get the process going publicly. After a while of not letting others know about step A, you will see the process as having been held back too long, and might end up giving up on it just because the first step was not pointed out when the original opportunity was available. For thoughts, release and be at peace.
